The City of York Council looks after one of the UK’s most historic cities, yet the council also places huge importance on the value of its communications technology. Over the past 11 years, North has been working with York to make it a leader not only in heritage tourism, but in advanced communications technology.

Since 2009, we’ve delivered projects covering connectivity, LAN, WAN, telephony, security, data management, internet filtering, CCTV and traffic control. And a key part of this activity has been the design, installation and operation of a city wide dark fibre network infrastructure. Our solutions and smooth delivery have pushed York forward as a super-connected city – York was named ‘the best place to live in Britain’, according to The Sunday Times due to its “perfect mix of heritage and hi-tech”.

Following the successful delivery of this solution, we have also completed a public Wi-Fi project to light up key hotspots in the city centre, including The Minster, shopping areas and park & ride terminals.
