Cutting through the noise at Celtic FC

One of the world’s most historic football institutions, Celtic Football Club hosts crowds of up to 60,000 spectators. When the club looked to ensure the welfare of those spectators by upgrading its PA/VA safety system, it was North that was able to deliver the necessary experience in the design, supply and delivery of the stadiums public address and entertainment system’s audio technology.

From full site surveys and acoustic measuring of noise levels during full-capacity UEFA Champions League matches, we were able to determine the volume required for safety messages, even at the loudest moments. We replaced the existing analogue PA/VA system with the latest back-of-house digital amplification and DSP control system, combined with an Electro-Voice speaker system to control the main stadium bowl area. This comprehensive solution complies with BS safety standards and also immediately improved the audio output quality.

As well as increasing audio power and the quality of the signal, the new system is more compact, more reliable, and has power-saving characteristics to reduce energy usage. Working closely with Celtic FC during the design process also helped to identify a number of additional opportunities to enhance the fans’ experience, such as combining the audio improvements to help the match-day experience technology.

Our solution ensures that Celtic Park benefits from significantly improved sound quality throughout, ensuring that the club can continue to provide the highest levels of safety and experience for fans, visitors and employees.
