Energy Savings at Celtic Park

Written by Cormac Healy, ESG & Sustainability Manager at North

North is committed to making the world a smarter, more connected, and more sustainable place. As a leader in cutting-edge technology solutions, we design, build, and support systems that not only enhance network performance but also drive meaningful environmental benefits. Our work spans diverse sectors—from enabling local councils to improve efficiencies through smart technology to enhancing network connectivity on military bases across the UK. It also takes us to iconic sports venues such as Celtic Park, Scotland’s largest football stadium.

As part of a transformative project at Celtic Park, North partnered with Dynacord to modernise the stadium’s PA/VA system. With our expertise in integrated AV solutions, we were part of a complete overhaul of the stadium’s electronics, delivering a state-of-the-art audio system that enhances both the matchday experience and overall stadium operations.

Cutting Costs and Energy Consumption

Beyond the clear benefits of enhancing the fan experience - ensuring every safety announcement, match day build up, and goal celebration is delivered with pristine audio clarity—this upgrade has also driven significant operational efficiencies for the club. The new system has resulted in an almost 50% reduction in energy consumption, highlighting the power of advanced technology to deliver both financial savings and environmental impact.

For organisations like Celtic FC, the case for adopting such innovations is clear: reduced operational costs, enhanced visitor experience, and a tangible step toward sustainability. When technology solutions align with commercial and environmental goals, they become an obvious choice for forward-thinking businesses, particularly sports venues whose stadiums operate 365 days a year but generate most of their revenue on only a fraction of those operating days.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability is not an afterthought—it is embedded in everything North does. We do not just design smarter networks; we integrate solutions that contribute to a greener future.

This project exemplifies that commitment. By significantly cutting idle power consumption on a day-to-day basis, this new upgrade to the stadiums PA system supports Celtic FC’s ambition to become the UK’s first Green Club. The system’s efficiency means less energy wasted, fewer emissions, large cost savings and a more responsible approach to stadium operations—all without compromising performance.

Leading the Future of Sustainable Technology

North along with our chosen vendor partners are at the forefront of driving sustainability through technology. Our work at Celtic Park demonstrates how innovation and environmental responsibility go hand in hand, setting a new standard for smart, sustainable infrastructure.

We are not just implementing solutions for today—we are shaping the future of intelligent, energy-efficient systems that benefit businesses, communities, and the planet. As we continue to lead the way in sustainable technology, we remain committed to delivering solutions that do not just meet our clients’ needs but actively contribute to a better world.
