North partners with Fife Council to improve safety for high-rise residents
As part of a £360,000 investment, North has partnered with Fife Council to deliver cutting-edge video surveillance aimed at significantly improving safety and security for residents of high-rise flats across the region.
Located at the council’s Halbeath depot, the facility offers 24/7 concierge-style monitoring of high-rise housing blocks, backed by the latest technology. The upgrade also includes a network refresh to support HD video streaming and a large video wall.
Council staff will now continuously monitor video feeds, including evenings, weekends and overnight. This enables real-time intervention, faster incident response and proactive monitoring to detect and deter anti-social behaviour and vandalism.
Two-way communication has also been installed at door-entry sites, giving security teams the ability to speak directly with visitors or residents and enhance access control. This improves resident safety and ensures the system complies with privacy and surveillance regulations.
Julie Hutchison, Senior Account Manager at North said: “North is proud to support the Council’s investment to deliver a future-ready control room and video surveillance system that enhances safety for residents. By integrating high-quality video feeds and two-way communications across the properties, we’re enabling real-time intervention when incidents occur – helping deter crime, protect communities, and give residents greater peace of mind.”
According to Councillor Altany Craik: “I’m delighted to officially open this fantastic new resource. Tenants have been asking for it and I’m confident the new service will help make them feel more safe and secure at home.”
Service Manager Joan Lamie added that the hub now gives the council greater capacity to respond quickly to incidents and work in collaboration with other services to keep the blocks safe: “The CCTV footage will also help us investigate reports of vandalism, anti-social behaviour and fly tipping and keep areas safe.”
