Our Apprentices
We have a proud history of developing apprentices. Our Apprenticeship Programme offers a valuable opportunity to combine work and study. Our apprentices develop new skills through training and mentoring from our experienced teams while working on an exciting range of projects.
We team up with leading training providers to deliver recognised qualifications and ensure our apprentices are fully supported throughout their journey. With opportunities across a range of technology areas, each of our apprentices can learn new skills and progress their careers in our fast-growing, innovative business.
I was hired as part of the Community Benefit commitment that North made for the City of Edinburgh Council CCTV contract.
I'm learning a wide range of skills with a lot of time spent learning the gist of how everything works, from installations to learning new systems with customers such as the National Museum of Scotland and the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People, and of course, working with the City of Edinburgh Council CCTV systems.
Every day I work alongside an experienced engineer to learn how they work. They teach me how to perfect my skills to help with my development and see what I can bring to the table. The team I work with are very friendly.
What I like most about working at North is that I’m learning a whole new set of skills that will influence my future career path.
I’m studying for my Level 3 Safety and Security qualification and am learning good skills that will be beneficial for the future, like checking batteries, voltage and amps and learning the end sites.
The best thing about the apprenticeship and working at North is the communication. The team are always checking in on you, supporting you and making sure that you’re learning on the job and are comfortable and happy. This is important as I'm developing a completely new set of skills and working on a wide range of new projects.
I am currently studying for my Electronic Fire and Security Systems qualification. In my apprenticeship I’m learning all disciplines within Safety and Security and soft skills including Health and Safety.
The best thing about my apprenticeship is the challenge. I like working at North and get on with my colleagues. I know that once I complete my apprenticeship and throughout my future career I will have transferrable skills. Every day is a school day, I’m learning new things everyday and cannot wait to continue my journey.
I’m a Structured Cabling Engineer Apprentice and learning a range of skills while working towards my Level 3 Network Cable Installer accreditation. In my apprenticeship, I get to work on exciting and interesting projects within the Defence & Justice division as part of the Field Services team. I’m developing lots of skills, including structured cabling, networking and fibre splicing.
I have been trained on how to use the Fluke Network Tester for both Copper and Fibre, fault find, and come up with process to overcome these issues. All are fundamental in becoming a key part of the engine that runs the Defence & Justice sector.
I really enjoy being part of the North team, and the options and abilities it has given me for my future career.

Career paths & development
We are proud of the way that we invest in the career development of our colleagues. Together with access to an outstanding range of training courses, we have also developed career path guides to help colleagues embrace the development opportunities available in their current roles. These guides outline the skills and competencies required at different levels in the business, helping people to assess their current strengths and identify their potential for growth.
We want every North colleague to enjoy a rewarding career, and we strive to provide everyone with the resources and support to maximise their potential.
Investors In People
We take pride in our people and aim to realise the potential of colleagues at every level, while encouraging and supporting their progression and career development.
North has achieved the Silver level of the We Invest In People accreditation, awarded through Investors in People. We’re now part of a community of businesses who know how important workplace culture is – and are doing something about it.
North has created a positive, trusting and supportive culture, combined with an empowering and enabling leadership style, which is valued by colleagues across the business. Our recent business review, further developing our purpose, brand values, structures, working practices and ethos, is creating a clear sense of direction which our colleagues understand and believe in.

Armed Forces Covenant
